Hello, Sanfedisti. I'm trying to find the source of that quote by Scruton but I'm finding nothing in "The Soul of the World." Did you name the wrong book in the article or am I doing something incorrect on my end?
If you mean the long block at the end of the article; that is my original writing. It was taken from an old Twitter thread of mine, edited for easier reading on here. These are my reflections on Scruton's book, not a quote from the book. I do apologize if the way I worded it was confusing.
This is fundamentally cuckservative, in that it only gets halfway there. It's positive in that it asserts proper aesthetics & beauty over the bizarre ugliness glorified by the Left (eg troons, fats, etc). However, it still embraces lewdness, and is mildly pornographic in a softcore sort of way, so it ends up falling short of proper right-wing aesthetics, as explained here.
Yes, but politics is thumotic masturbation, ergo activists are basically camwhores. I would give this calendar a B for grifting, an F for public relations, a D for softcore porn, and an A+ for radical honesty.
💯 this “What it exposes, and what no one has so far commented on, is the grave degree to which these stunts serve to ghettoize and de-legitimize conservative and right wing media and activism.”
Well, perhaps a key insight is that the "conservative" title is just a name up for grabs, not a coherent single-minded movement. And it doesn't just stop at traditionalists and Christians, but also goes e.g. to people who would like a return of the Pirelli calendar, or at a time when something like Married With Children could be made. Such people would still be identified as conservative, and even regressive and backwards, no? Such a calendar could be admired in ancient Rome - does it get any more "conservative" than trying to conserve something that much older than the puritans?
What can we even say? Mainstream conservatives are just putting themselves in the ghetto.
A fundamentality unserious movement....
Modesty is not just in dress as well, but in manner and action.
Red headed libtard was immodest, despite being one of the most modestly dressed, because the action within the photo was deeply immodest.
Was that the one with a cross in the background? Somehow she managed to be the most repugnant, just because it was so transparent and tacky.
Yes, it was. The pose in particular, something that should be reserved for her husband, displayed in public, for consumption on a calender.
Scruton’s “Why Beauty Matters” documentary is great for thinking through some of the things mentioned here.
It's fantastic, one of my favorites. Everyone should watch. Absolutely.

Hey, would you mind if I included that excerpt in a future article of mine? It's a very insightful train of thought. I'll of course give credit.
Absolutely, go ahead. If you're talking about the long quote at the end, that's me, not Scruton.
Ohhh, ok. Understood!
Which quote are you looking for the source on?
My mother enjoyed this as much as I did, thanks for the unexpected Christmas gift!

It's just lumpenprole activity. I don't even think it warrants talking about.

Excellent piece.
